A major step towards establishing Semantic Web services as the new e-work and e-commerce infrastructure has been made by a group of European researchers following the submission of a new framework to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C).

In June 2005 the DIP project announced the submission of the Web Services Modelling Ontology (WSMO) to the W3C’s Semantic Web activity committee.

DIP’s aims to develop and extend current Semantic Web and Web service technologies to produce a new technology infrastructure for Semantic Web services (SWS) – an environment in which different Web services can discover and invoke each other without human intervention.
